Just received an e-mail from ACS’s technical support saying that the error that prevented their userbase from accessing the WIki has been fixed.

As for others from other ISPs that may be affected, please know that we’re working with the affected ISPs as much as we are able.

Good hunting!

In talking to a few people who have not been able to access the website since our move, it appears that Plusnet internet service provider—serving the United Kingdom—has an issue with The Planet’s DNS entries. The Planet, as you may be aware, is home to our two web servers. Since Plusnet users can’t access the website due to malformed or incorrect DNS entries, people have not been able to access the website from that ISP.

Plusnet and The Planet are working on a solution right now, but I have no ETA on when Plusnet people can access the website without using web anonymizers or web proxies that do not suffer this problem.

This will also be posted on the Case Orange blog here, since that blog is hosted on a server in the UK, and thus not affected by the DNS woes of Plusnet. So tell your UK friends.

Updates as we get them, thank you.

We can now announce the winners to our survey raffle.

They are as follows:

  • David S., USA, Season 3 DVD Set (Grand Prize)
  • Keith T., USA, $10 USD Gift Certificate from NewEgg.com (Second Prize)
  • Elizabeth L., Australia, Free One-Year Membership to Battlestar Forum and Battlestar Wiki (Third Prize)

The last two recipients who also won a free one-year membership to Battlestar Forum and Battlestar Wiki have not yet given me permission to add their names to the winner’s list, so I’ve withheld that information until such time as I get permission from them to do so.

To the thousand+ people who participated in the survey, we want to thank you for your opinions and feedback! We will be having another survey in June, after the first ten episodes of the fourth season have aired! So keep an eye on the blog for future announcements!

I’ve sent out the e-mails to our survey winners, so I hope to have a list of winners (and what they won) as soon as said winners get back to me on some things. One of those things is whether or not they want to be listed here as winners.

In the meantime, here is the summary of the results of the survey that 1000 people participated in. Note that there’s nothing personal in here, it’s just a statistical break down of how many people answered the questions, and what content they surfed the wiki for. I’ll talk more about the general responses sometime later this week, since I’m busy with other projects… But things are moving forward, and we are working on ways to better the site behind the scenes.

Keep the faith!

Yesterday out of the blue, a real life authorized author of a re-imagined series book, appeared on our forums. The author’s name is Jason T. Eberl (Under the name PhilosopherJedi) and he is the author of “Battlestar Galactica and Philosophy: Knowledge Here Begins Out There” and he contacted us so he can start a weekly discussion of philosophy questions regarding Battlestar episodes.

Folks,

This is just in. Mike Hinman moved SyFy Radio to an earlier time slot, so my appearance on the 23rd will be around 10:25 P.M. Eastern Time. It will last about 20 minutes, if not longer depending on how things go.

I’ll be talking about the Wiki, Battlestar Galactica, and Galacticruise. Also, I’ll be taking your phone calls, if you really want to ask me questions or just chat with us.

So jump to SyFy Radio’s website before the show starts at 10 P.M. on April 23rd by going here.

Additionally, I must note that this a family-friendly show, so I do want (and need) to stress that there won’t be vulgarity or mudslinging. Not that I expect any rational and reasonable person to do those lurid things, but it needs to be said.

So say we all!

Given the amount of questions and comments given through our survey, plus the amount of respondents we’ve received through our survey, we’ve redone and expanded our FAQ page on the Battlestar Wiki.

Check out our FAQ by going here.

Of course, if you have questions that should be added in our FAQ, please send them our way or add them to the page yourself!

There’s been a lot of feedback regarding the design of the site. Some people want a lighter colored design that’s easier on the eyes. Well, we do have one available. (Click here to preview it.)

Now to choose different themes, you need to have a username on Battlestar Wiki. So if you don’t have a username on Battlestar Wiki, get one. It’s free. We don’t bite. Promise. :)
Once you have a username, log in with it. (The log in link is at the very top right hand corner of the page.)

Once logged in, click on “My Preferences“. Then click on the tab named “skin” in the control panel that loads. From there you have your choice of skins! Right now there are three. The lighter of the three is a skin called “bsgmonobook”, which is essentially a version of Wikipedia’s skin, with black text and with an off-white background.

Cool, eh?

For those of you that have answered the survey and offered us opinions, I will be contacting some of you with follow up questions and comments by the end of this week.

The reason I’m doing so is because some respondents were vague or unspecific as to what needed to be changed or modified.

For instance, we’ve had people that simply said that some articles were inaccurate, but didn’t note which ones were inaccurate or why they felt this to be the case. Obviously, we want to know more, and so we’re going to make sure we grill people. :)
So don’t be too surprised if you receive an e-mail from joe(AT)frakmedia(DOT)net with follow up questions. Of course, if you don’t want to answer them, I’ll understand and it’s not a problem.
