I know I’ve talked about having a mirror of Battlestar Wiki before throughout the years, so it shouldn’t be surprising that I’ve brought up the issue again.
For those that don’t know what the frak I’m talking about, basically a “mirror” is a copy of a website that is hosted on another computer (typically named a “server”). This is opposed to a mirror that William Adama looks at when terminating the Adamastache.
The purpose of a mirror, outside of the Adamastache example, is to post a copy of the website that people can access in the event the main site should be temporarily unavailable. And since we’ve had that happen a bit in the past, and with the dawn of Season 4 nearly upon us, I’ve reopened investigating the use of a mirror as a sort of exit strategy. (Again, unlike Adama's lack of one when dealing with the Cylons.)
In any event, I’ve talked about it over the years that we’ve been in operation and decided to take another crack at it. And this time, it seems to be going quite well, and thus I’m discussing it here.
Right now, the tentative mirror for the English Battlestar Wiki can be located here. Do note that it has no images in the articles yet, just text. I expect the images will be done tonight.
As of right now, I’m redirecting the “battlestarwiki.com” domain for the purposes of the mirror. That domain should be available and redirecting to the mirror site in 24 to 48 hours. The primary domain, “battlestarwiki.org”, will remain unaffected, as well as our “.net” domain that acts as a redirect to the .org.
Also, we’re currently only mirroring the English wiki and our media repository. Depending on how things go, the other language wikis will be mirrored as well.
So say we all!
