There are a ton of new goodies, and they will also be posted soon enough, but I am highlighting a few of the major changes right away since everyone should know about them! Screenshots posted below for better visual learners. This is the first part of this series.

The largest change to the wiki is the left Sidebar. We have installed a wiki extension that allows us better control of the Sidebar and what type of content we can put in them. Now there is a “set default” one that everyone uses, however, depending on where you are in the wiki (Portal Namespace, Battlestar Wiki Namespace, Article, Talk pages, etc) it changes to suit those different needs and depending on your user status, it adds certain items. For example, in my screenshot, I see the “Senior Chief’s Tools” because I am a senior chief. Chief’s and everyone else has a different looking sidebar area. This allows us and you to have tools quickly at hand. Also you can add your own sidebar items by adding content to User:YourUserName/Sidebar,which is neat if you have places you like to check often. *cough* Feature Article/Picture nomination pages *cough*

The second change is a bit more subtle and if you didn’t see it by now, you will now see a new navigational “sidebar” popup depending on what is coded into the article. Now for those who don’t visit the Lee Adama page, this is the page and the box highlighted is the new feature.

Now based on the code for the article, the box header/content can change, but we think this might be a better way than having the text at the top. We havn’t really discussed that yet, however, this is still in the testing phase as the background color might change if people don’t see it quickly enough.

Anyway, that should keep you exited for a while we work on our next set of new features to come! Also enjoy the new random images up at the top. Steelviper has been sending us Season 4 versions of characters images and even a surprise one! Guess we will have to wait and see!
