Visitors to the wiki may have noted that we’ve been adding links to our episode guide pages and official merchandise pages. These links lead to Circuit City, iTunes, and Amazon.com.
While we’ve had links to iTunes and Amazon for a while now, they’re much more prominent and included in the “infoboxes” on the appropriate episode guide and merchandise pages. The reason for this is to help defray operating costs of the Battlestar Wiki. While the ads do bring it a sizable amount of revenue, it is supplemented by additional revenue streams: basically referrals on which we obtain a commission. (Basically, if you buy something through one of our links, we get a small kickback from it.)
Additionally, we’ve been selective with who’ve we been affiliating ourselves with, and with the assistance of Quantcast, we’ve determined the best websites to affiliate with.
That information is provided here.
Basically, the three specialty retailers that align itself with our audience are: Circuit City, Blockbuster, and Barnes and Noble. Unsurprisingly, I’ve seen “Circuit City” ads on Google’s ad rotation, which also aided in our decision to be affiliates to them.
Our affiliation with Blockbuster is still in the works. Also, you should be seeing some B&N links by the end of the week.
So the next time you shop online, consider clicking one of our links and helping us out. You don’t pay any more than you would, but you help us out.
So say we all.
