The administrators and I have been debating about whether or not to lock the entire wiki during Sunday’s airing of “[[Crossroads, Part I]]”. As frequent visitors would know, we have had to lock down the pages of the episodes currently airing to minimize the potential downfalls of the wiki getting overloaded with people rushing to add information. Given the wide-scale importance of this episode and the possible amount of changes as a result, we would rather have an “read-only” wiki so that people can still read information about the show
If the heavy spoilers are any indication, there will be a lot going on during these last two episodes. Therefore, I have made a decision: starting at 8:00pm Eastern Time (ET), the entire wiki will be in lock down on Sunday March 18th and March 25th 2007. The duration of the lockdown will be determined after the airing of the encore, which would be 2 AM ET of March 19th and 26th 2007.
After the episodes air I (or Shane) will evaluate the server and see if the server is in a stable state to bring it out of “read-only” mode to “editing-mode” — there is a fine line between the two. I would like to make this point very clear. Not even admins will be able to edit. This effects everyone, every language edition of the wiki, and every user. Since you don’t need to be registered to view the articles, everyone will still be able to read whatever content is already available on-wiki.
The main reason we are doing this is so that the average user has a place to still look up information during the episode to debate details via your preferred forum, but not get bogged down when doing so. The blog, however, will stay online during this time to respond to comments and post updates to our situation. The blog will not, as stated by the rules, be a place to discuss the episode at all. If the blog is unaccessible, remember to goto the Case Orange blog, and get updates from there.
We welcome any feedback on this plan. We don’t like to do these things, but we believe it is needed to maintain the operation of the wiki during and following the episode.
So say we all.

I think that is a good step. The wiki will be SWAMPED the next couple of weeks.
Performance has been quite criminal lately, so I think this might help. Luckily, edit hell will be over when the season’s over.
Joe, I hope you mean 8pm Eastern DAYLIGHT Time, as 8pm EST is 9pm EDT.
It is best to NEVER use EST or EDT, as it can get confusing when the wrong label is used. Only use ET to describe Eastern Time.
You’ll notice that broadcaster NEVER use daylight or standard in time references. Much safer that way.
It’s EDT. Thanks for the catch.
Already fixed…
