You can now use wiki style tags to link to the English Battlestar Wiki from this blog. Just use the double square brackets around a search term :D .

Also I have added a search box to the right hand side of the blog so that you can search all language wikis from any page. Just use the drop down box to select what language you want to search and away you go. Please leave any comments, bugs or suggestions on my userpage, thanks.

Edit1: Also created a new “portal” front page check it out and let us know what you think.

Edit2: Search box now clears on click to type in your search term.

Edit3: Article counts on the front page now auto update from the wiki stats pages.

Edit4: Re-ordered the language wikis by number of areticles. Left -> right, top -> bottom. This is not done automatically however, and so if there are any major changes the page will have to be updated manually.

The (simple) DNS issue has been rectified on the Athena server. Needless to say, no downtime was incurred.

In the meantime, enjoy tonight’s episode, “Dirty Hands”. :-)

So say we all!

Update: Shane accidently set MySQL to… which is not true. This has been fixed. Sorry for the small downtime.

The server will be up and down during this time to fix a DNS problem both servers are happening. Expect longer outages than normal.

After installing SQUID onto the server to speed up the site something broke the mod_rewrite rules on the blog which enabled nice looking urls. While we try to work out the problem I have taken the rewrite off so that the blog is fully functional again. Pretty urls willl be back very soon.

From The Colonial Gang:

Today, Lt. Felix Gaeta [ Shane ], installed CNP Advanced [ squid ] on the Galactica [ Battlestar Wiki ] computers in effort to starve off the number of Cylon attacks [ users ] the server gets a day. He said that “Any person wanting to help the Galactica [ Battlestar Wiki ] with holding off Cylons [ apache requests ]” should contact him. He notes that recruits [ mirrors ] should be aware of the guidelines before signing up.

In other news… Apollo server has now a 100mb uplink backbone.

We are queuing what you all do as soon as the episode finishes airing. What do you do?

Update: We know what your folks are up to…. Apparently, numerous edit conflicts on “Dirty Hands” (the next episode) are causing slow-down issues on Wiki due to the server attempting to compare edits and prevent overwrites. Therefore, editing for the current episode and the next episode will be locked.

Also, there is no way to guess the next (or future) episodes based on a 20-second trailer. It violates the citation policy.

Just like the fall of the Twelve Colonies, the Battlestar Wiki has now been officially running for two years. The wiki has grown over 2,000 articles on the English wiki and expanded into 5 other language projects — to expand the growth of the Battlestar Universe to the world. continue reading this entry »

As you may already have seen the Wiki is now sporting a fresher look. While this week the blog got its very own special design based on the Colonial Ballot papers it was time to also freshen up the actual wiki.

There is now a image of the weapons control in the background along with a dark red mist which spreads along the top of the page. Talk pages now also have a different background colour to the rest of the pages so you always know at a glance what you are looking at. A small flag now also shows in the top right corner so you know what language you are looking at. Red edit buttons now fit in with the rest of the site theme. Social icons are also added to the footer along with many other little design features to make the Wiki look that little more unique.

Big thanks to Shane is needed for giving me a hand as well as credits to the helpers of the previous Wiki theme.

More good and secret stuff to come tho guys, stay tuned to your favourite Battlestar site.

All the database and apache functions have now been separated. It took longer than we thought. We had a MySQL problem getting it running and then configuring it so only the other server can read it to prevent DoSS attacks, pings, etc. A few times during Sunday and Monday we will be ajusting the server settings for best opitmization. Please expect minor outages. Also for those who all of a sudden get a “Database Connection” error is because we are working on a private domain link between the two servers for communications. There is also a very strong possiablity that we will be installing Squid on Apollo to allow for even more faster loading times. continue reading this entry »

The wiki may be temporarily unavailable sometime tonight, simply because we are working on migrating the database to its own server (yes, we finally got the server). Once the database has been migrated and connections have been tested, everything should be O.K. after that.

Updates as we have them.

Check out the audio version of the article on Vulpa, which is voiced by a “Cylon” (or as close to one as I could get it). Tell us whether we should do this for other articles or not.

Simply click the audio icon at the top right hand corner of the page, the url to which is below:

So hear we all.
