With the season almost re-starting on the 21st we are glad to say that we gotten the wiki all “pretty” once more and that our translations, though slow, are going on. However, a downside might appear on the 21st. Because the episodes usually aired on Friday there wasn’t enough people around to cause “server outage”. However with Sunday being an off day for most of us (/me grumbles) there might be some outages during this time.

Remember editing freezes will still take place two hours before and after and episode airs. So in-case your are thinking about direct editing during an airing, think again. This only applies to the episode guide itself and not all articles. Those we encourage you to edit.

If there are any slow downs at anytime during Sunday or Monday, please report them to this blog post. This will help us evaluate if we need to upgrade the RAM on the server. Any questions?

Ads are now active right now on all Battlestar Wiki sites (minus the hangerbay). For those who want to purchase ads for any of the wikis, you can do that by clicking on the “Advertise” link below the ad on the left hand side. You can target your ads to specific wikis. An example of it working is, English target ads (plus the Media wiki) will not show up on the Turkish wiki.

The English wiki and our media repository are the only wikis that share the same zone code.

Final placement of the ads has yet to be decided. Will post updates once we have discussed the situation.

According to the Mediawiki site, an apparent “XSS vulnerability” exists. With that said, we will be updating the Mediawiki software for the next hour. Expect minor outages.

Update 1/12/07: The update to the full 1.9.0 has been completed.

As of this writing, the English-language Battlestar Wiki is only 93 articles away from the 2000 mark.

I just want to say that we should probably be close to that in about a month, given the current push to further add on to our entries on the Original 1978 series.

As I am going around and working on my spring cleaning, I have come to realize that there are some pieces of technology that I really don’t use. Such as gaming systems, which are the Playstation Portable, Nintendo DS, and the PS2.

So I’ve just decided that the best course of action is to auction them off via eBay. With that in mind, I have decided that 50% of the profits from these forthcoming auctions will go directly to the PayPal account for Battlestar Wiki.
The question now is this: should I auction them off as bundles including games, or just the hardware (which would include controllers, memory cards, and the like) and the games seperately?
Also, my other major question is whether or not this is really even worth the time. As such, I would like to hear any thoughts our visitors have regarding such an endeavor.

For the short amount of time that the Wiki has been on the new servers, provided by The Planet, we have generated some major numbers for only November 7, 2006 through Dec 31, 2006. Now, you are all expecting me right now to tell you the number. Well… that’s the game. There are 3 stats you have to guess at the same time.

• Unique Visitors
• Total Bandwidth (In GB)
• Most Used Browsers (In Percent and the Browser)

Myself and Joe are excluded in this little game because we have access to the real stats. But if you get it right, I don’t know…. you can dub yourself the Ultimate BSG Wiki Fan. Now it’s not just English Wiki…. it’s all of them. Turkish wiki is not in this count because it just started so remember that. The person close to the real count within 2000 vistors (and 5GB, and 5%) will be the winner. You can enter (post a comment) as many times as you want, but be sure to answer after someone else other wise double posts will be not counted. Good luck to all!

Update @ 9:41 PM EST: Right now, I can just see most of you going… “Wow. The blog looks different.” Yes… yes it is. I looked for a “theme” that was just right. Now it not going to stay like this for long as we have to make it look like the Battlestar Wiki, but the fine folks who make this theme, have really have aimed high when they were making it. Kudos to them.

So… over this weekend, if you try to visit the blog, you will (I am not saying might) see errors and different “looks” going on as I and my crack team of graphic masters whip up a theme that for sure will be rocking. For now, this theme does just great. As a matter of fact, it so good, I might install it on my own blog. Anyway, that’s about it. I’ll keep ya posted like I usually do.
