Because of the total crazy number of connections we are still getting to the English site, and that the server, with the current configuration of 1GB can not handle over 2,220 connections (plus 2GB of Swap RAM), we are shutting down EN until the new memory is in place. To put this in perspective, the percentage in connections has gone up 150% since 5 minutes into the episode “Rapture”. With that in mind, Battlestar Wiki is clearly not dead and thank you for your continued interest in wiki.
We will post an update once the RAM update is complete. If the site goes off, that means the RAm is being installed.
So say us RAM.

I suspected something like that. Why can’t people watch the episode first, and then overload the server?
*me stops refreshing the site
Wiki addicts?
2k DB connections? This happens with mod_php which spawn one connection for each apache servant.
I’ve seen this happening on my servers, you may want to use PHP as fcgi with a limited (say 20) number of instances.
I kind of expected this, the wiki’s been extremely slow all day, a normal wiki addict such as myself can’t even go on his weekly editing spree -_-
FWIW I don’t know that much about webservers, but I agree with svanegmond that you should diagnose whether memory is really your problem.
BTW, the redirect’s kind of broken, http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Html redirects to http://blog.battlestarwiki.orgwiki/Html whereas http://en.battlestarwiki.org/{EVERYTHING} should redirect to http://blog.battlestarwiki.org/
I miss the wiki…
The wiki is now back online. Upgrade took five minutes.
Watching the server, the memory has helped in with the 300 active connections right now. People need to realize that we also host 4 other languages so it’s not just the English wiki. As soon as English airs, Chinese gets translated and same with German.
