Some users have been reporting issues with the images not loading. The issue seems to be limited to those who use software firewalls, and a fix will be worked on. However, I require the following information, namely:

• What software firewall you are currently using, with version number.
• What security level the firewall is set to.
• The name of the operating system you are using (such as Windows XP SP2, Win NT, et al.)
• In addition, what internet service provider you are currently using (or if you are on a university or other network).

Right now the Wiki is a bit slow, but still online and editable. Between working on things and keeping an eye on the process list via SSH, the additional gig of ram seems to have done the trick.

Depending on whether or not Battlestar is renewed for a 4th season, we are seriously considering about adding another server for just the mysql database; no definite decisions will be made until an announcement is made regarding that.

Yes, you heard right. The blog tabs above are broken, for the most part. For some reason, the “About Battlestar Wiki” and “Blog Rules” pages result in 404 errors. This may be a WP issue, since we’re using a “bleeding edge” version of the software…

That’s right! Another change right before your eyes. We upgraded the WordPress software. Also we enabled a new “theme” that will serve as the basic package our new custom blog design will follow. The blog design will not take place until after we completed a new design over at the Hangarbay. So head there if you want to get an idea how this blog will look like in the future.

We’ve received the RAM upgrade 2 hours ago as of this writing. Shane is looking over the server statistics right now and they look good.

The problems we had pertained to RAM, and not so much bandwidth, and the swap file wasn’t able to help.

For future reference, we have an “off wiki” status report called “Case Orange” that is available at http://bswiki.woo-yay.net. I recommend keeping it in your bookmarks. Cool thing about it is that you can add reports to it as well, so if you’re having problems, you can go there and let us know about them.

Because of the total crazy number of connections we are still getting to the English site, and that the server, with the current configuration of 1GB can not handle over 2,220 connections (plus 2GB of Swap RAM), we are shutting down EN until the new memory is in place. To put this in perspective, the percentage in connections has gone up 150% since 5 minutes into the episode “Rapture”. With that in mind, Battlestar Wiki is clearly not dead and thank you for your continued interest in wiki.

We will post an update once the RAM update is complete. If the site goes off, that means the RAm is being installed.

Today another bot (semi-automated or automated) program is now running on all the wiki. What it does it check the English Wiki, as it has most of the data, looks at the interwiki links and makes sure the other language “article” has a link back to the parent. It would also place any other language that it finds to the article. This bot has the sysop flag to allow updating of protected pages.

Check out the userpage on the English, for complete understanding on how this works. This bot is considered a “maintenance” bot so it will run every month (automatically) and can be run manually if a lot of interwiki links get created.

For your pages to get “caught” by the bot, you must place the interwiki on the English wiki…for now. Please check up the updated Standards and Conventions that deal with this matter.

Before the start of the new season, we are running a server update so everything is crystal clear. There is not much activity today, so we decided to do this now before the re-start of Battlestar… and if you haven’t been counting… it’s tomorrow at 10pm EST on SciFi Channel. Update: That was the simplest server update I have ever done… all done.

For the last few days some of the Administrative team at the Battlestar Wiki have been making some changes to the design of the wiki. An example of the changes are currently available to see at the BS Wiki Hangarbay. Most of these changes effect the BsgBook skin, the default skin of the wiki, and not the BsgMonoBook skin.
Follows is a list of changes, some subtle some large that have been implemented onto the Hangarbay.

1. Favicon – The new one is smoother and clearer than the current one
2. User icon – I have changed it from the pixely white sillohette to a smooth Captain rank pip
3. Redirect image – The current one looks invisible on black but the new one works on both. See here and here.
4. Background – Added a picture of the computers from CIC and overlayed a slighty red cloud effect likes is use on some promotional material
5. Removed “Main Page” text – this uses a custom js script so will only work is javascript is disabled. I spend a long time last night trying to work out how to do it a better way. I will continue to look into this until its smoother and cleaner.
6. Battlestar Wiki title – This took me a stupidly long time to make, I wanted it to look as close as possible to the title shown on the TV shows but it was very hard work. This is attempt #1. If people like it then I will spend a few more hours on it getting it perfect.
7. Language logo – I put a flag next to the title because i thought this showed clearly which language edition you were on. Its probably more useful to define the difference been the english and media wikis but i guess it might be ok for all the others. Both the bswiki title and flag icon only show on the main page. They do not show on any other paged leaving maximum space on the screen for actual content.
8. Social bookmarks – They seem to be all the rage right now so I have added some of the more popular ones. This also took me an insanely long time to work out how to make it pick up the url that you were on but got it sorted in the end.All ext links on talk pages only, get the nofollow link.
9. Tabs – the tabs start directly in flush from the left of the content box
10. If logged out, your IP address will not show in the corner along with the associated IP user talk page
11. Flags appear inside of a “list look” in the “In other languages” area.

In under 6 hours administrators of Battlestar Wiki have approved the Username policy. Usernames that are currently in violation of the policy will have a 2 week grace period as the policy is just starting. If you have any questions about the policy, please visit the talk page.

The Think Tank proposed username policy is up for review and voting. Please contribute any thoughts, questions or concerns on the username policy here.
